JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title        :           Nurse Incharge
Reporting To:           Nurse Superintendent
Qualification:             GNM
Job Duties-
·         Develops and posts work schedule within time frame
·         Provides direct patient care as needed
·         Assigns lunches and breaks for the staff
·         Insures standards of patient care through QA monitors
·         Anticipates physician needs
·         Communicates problems involving personnel, medical staff, patients, families and the general public to the appropriate management personnel
·         Schedules staff meetings on a regular basis
·         Completes annual performance evaluations on staff
·         Makes an assignment according to the needs of the patient and the capabilities of the staff
·         Safety education self-study module
·         Obtains information and updates the medical record:
Ø  Full Vital signs
Ø  Time in/out
Ø  Weight
Ø  Medication profile
Ø  Immunization record
Ø  Allergies
Ø  Chief Compliant
Ø  Interventions recorded
Ø  Records response
·         Implements the Plan of Care as Developed by the Provider
Ø  Follows provider orders
Ø  Evaluates nursing interventions on medical records
Ø  Implements emergency procedures as indicated
Ø  Complies with hospital policy for receiving doctor’s orders, including verbal and phone
·         Provides patient/family education
Ø  Explains discharge instructions as directed
Ø  Hand out appropriate information sheets
·         Communicates relevant patient information
Ø  Reports changes in patient’s status to the provider
Ø  Documents using the Nursing Process
·         Policies and Procedures
Ø  Uses principles of body mechanics in mobilizing patient or objects
Ø  Asks for help when lifting heavy patients
Ø  Complies with policies for electrical safety
Ø  Incorporates infection control principal in practice
Ø  Complies with monthly emergency drills
Ø  Complies with policy for Handling Medical Emergencies
Ø  Complies with policy regarding risk management
Ø  Demonstrates appropriate use of incident reports
Ø  Assists with QA studies: Collects data & Responds to corrective plans
·         Has working knowledge of location of specific policies in the P&P manual
Ø  Safety manual
Ø  Infection control manual
Ø  Administrative Manual
Ø  MSDS manual
Ø  Disaster manual
Ø  Clinic Specific P&P Manual
·         Assists in the Front Office
Ø  Uses appropriate telephone etiquette
Ø  Documents appointments with accurate patient information
Ø  Documents and makes physician and agency referrals
Ø  Assists with filing as needed
Ø  Makes follow up telephone calls
·         Effectively problem solves for self and other personnel on shift
·         Works on assigned projects under the direction of the department supervisor in keeping Productivity costs within certain standards
