Preparing the Cath
Lab by setting up the equipment and sterilizing tools that are necessary for
the operation.

Duties:
- The Cardiac
Cath Lab Tech assists in the responsibility for patients having Cath
lab procedures and cardiac device implantations performed in the cardiac
Cath Lab.
- A
cardiac catheterization technologist helps a cardiologist diagnose a
patient's cardiac problems through the use of a heart catheter. The heart
catheter is inserted through blood vessels that run up to the heart for
the purpose of analyzing possible blockages to blood flow. Treatments
performed during a cardiac catheterization may include balloon
angioplasties, stent placements or pacemaker implantations.
- These
duties include circulating, physiologically monitoring patients during
Cath lab procedures, and performing sterile scrub procedures for both
diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, vascular
procedures, and other cardiac procedures.
- Employee
must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to
satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student.
- Direct
supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the
student throughout the shift.
- The technologist will also prepare the patient for the
procedure by cleaning, shaving, and, in the case of cardiac
catheterization for angioplasty, anesthetizing the area of insertion.
- During surgical procedures, they spend a great deal of
time standing and may be required to help lift and transfer patients.
