JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title        :           EMO
Reporting To:           Consultant
Job Summary:
Hospital doctors apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of disease. They work in wards and out-patient clinics.
Qualification:             MBBS
Duties:
Treating patients and refering them to a wide range of other health care professionals, including nurses, radiographers, pharmacists and physiotherapists. Hospital doctors work within a number of specialties.
The following responsibilities are likely to be carried out, regardless of the doctor's specialty, on a daily basis
¨      monitoring and providing general care to patients on hospital wards and in outpatient clinics;
¨      admitting patients requiring special care, investigations and treatment;
¨      examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions;
¨      Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing diagnostic procedures lumber puncture, Ascitis tap and Pleural tap etc.
¨      making notes, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other health care professionals; 
¨      working with other doctors as part of a team, either in the same department, or within other specialties;
¨      liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment;
¨      promoting health education;
¨      Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures
¨      Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effects
¨      Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
¨      In case of death in medico legal / complicated cases, declaration and certification of death should be done by the Senior Resident or faculty member on-duty only.
¨      Junior Residents are not permitted to issue medical certificates, treatment certificates or any other medico legal certificates.
In a broad sense the main duties of a doctor are:

·        Diagnosing

·        Communication

·        Prevention

·        Prescribing

·        Charting

Working condition:
The duty assignment for each resident will be in the following areas:
§  Ward
§  Casualty/Emergency Room
§  Out- Patient Department
§  Medical/Surgical ICU
§  Sub specialties
Contact with people
§  Hospital work in teams and have a lot of contact with people from a variety of backgrounds, including patients and their families, other medical and nursing staff, and members of the public.
Equipment:
Junior resident should know:
·         Medical equipment and instruments like BP instrument, ECG Machine, Pulse Oximeter, Nebulizer etc... 
·         drugs and anesthetics
Hazards:
The work requires close contact with patients suffering from variety of illnesses. There can be considerable risk of being infected with hepatitis, pneumonia, and other infectious diseases. The work can be stressful and exhausting particularly when the facilities are stringent and duty hours demanding.
Other hazards may include:
·         Work-related stress, whose causal factors include excessive working time and overwork
·         Violence from outside the organization
·         Mobbing (workplace bullying)
